FARMINGTON, Maine -- Junior Max Hummel scored a career-high 28 points on 11-15 shooting and sophomore Tom Coyne added 13 points off the bench to lead the Bates men's basketball team to a 76-67 victory Tuesday night at Maine-Farmington. 

Hummel (Glastonbury, Conn.) drained five of his nine three-point attempts and added five rebounds and two assists. Coyne (Falmouth, Maine) knocked down three threes and added four rebounds and two assists. Junior Nick Lynch (Westford, Mass.) finished in double figures as well for Bates (11-10) with 10 points, a team-high six rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots. Junior Brandon Galloway (Fort Washington, Md.) added a team-high six assists off the bench.

Hummel's layup with 13:27 to go in the game put Bates up 50-48 and they did not surrender the lead down the stretch. 

After UMF (7-12) made the score 52-50, the Bobcats went on a 13-0 run to go up 65-50. Hummel scored nine of the Bobcats' 13 points during the run, including back-to-back threes to put the finishing touches on the Beavers. Maine-Farmington never got closer than to within eight points the rest of the game.

Bates shot 48.3% on the day (29-60), 36.1% from behind the arc and went 5-5 at the free throw line. The Bobcats tallied 31 total rebounds, 21 assists, five steals and five blocks. The Beavers shot 42.9% from the floor (27-63), 35.3% from behind the arc (6-17) and 70% at the free throw line (7-10). UMF notched 37 rebounds, 14 assists, and two steals.

Riley Robinson led the Beavers in scoring with 21 points after shooting 7-12 from the floor with one three-pointer. Robinson also notched eight rebounds and three assists. Issac Witham added 13 points on 5-7 shooting along with going 3-3 from behind the arc.

Bates trailed 38-36 at halftime before outscoring the Beavers 40-29 in the second half. 

The Bobcats host No. 21 nationally ranked Hamilton this Friday in NESCAC play starting at 7:00 p.m.
