Tommie men hand Gustavus first MIAC loss

More news about: St. Thomas

Ryan Boll had 14 points and nine rebounds and the host Tommie men's basketball team ended a rare three-game skid with Wednesday night's 64-51 win over Gustavus.

St. Thomas (4-4 overall, 2-2 MIAC), which never trailed, used a late 18-7 run to pull away. The Gusties (6-3, 4-1) were outscored 30-9 from 3-point range.

The Toms closed the first half with a 5-0 run that netted a 30-23 halftime lead. The Gusties pulled within 46-41 with 9:11 to go, but Tyler Potts sank two treys and Boll added another as the lead was extended to 64-48 with 1:02 remaining.

Potts scored a career-best 11 points, and freshman guard Burt Hedstrom scored 12 for St. Thomas, which had only nine turnovers and improved to 2-0 at home this season.

Jason Faul had 15 points and seven boards for Gustavus.

The Tommie men play a non-conference game Saturday at UW-Stevens Point and resume conference play Jan. 3.
