UWL Earns Home Win over UW-Stout; Koelbl Reaches 200th Victory

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 77-52 victory over UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall in the Eagles' regular-season home finale.  UWL improves to 13-11 overall and 5-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Stout drops to 13-11 overall and 4-9 in the conference. 

UWL head coach Ken Koelbl earned his 200th career win with Wednesday's victory.  The second winningest coach in school history, Koelbl is the 17th coach in WIAC history to record 200 victories.  He is in his 14th season as the Eagles' head coach. Burt McDonald (1973-89) is UWL's all-time leader with 263 wins.   12098 Ken Koelbl earned his 200th career win Wednesday night.

The game was tied 10-10 when UWL went on a 17-4 run to take a 27-14 lead with 9:38 remaining in the first half on a Ben Meinholz layup.  UW-Stout cut the lead to 27-16 with 8:48 left after a John Lahti layup, but UWL ended the half on a 17-5 run to lead 44-21. 

The Blue Devils could get no closer than 17 points in the second half. 

UWL shot 50.0% from the field, including 41.2% (seven-of-17) from three-point range, and 71.4% (10-of-14) at the free throw line. The Eagles shot 53.1% (17-of-32) from the field in the first half, including 50.0% (four-of-eight) from three-point range. 

Kenny Finco led UWL with a career-high 21 points, going eight-of-12 from the field, including one-of-one from three-point range, and four-of-four at the line.  He also tied for the team-high with three assists.  Meinholz and Zach Schradle each recorded a double-double with Meinholz finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Schradle had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Meinholz tied for the team lead with three assists while recording a team-high three steals. 

UW-Stout 34.5% from the field, including 36.8% from three-point range, and 55.6% (five-of-nine) at the line.  Lahti led the Blue Devils with 18 points while John Keefe finished with 10.  Jacob Nordstrom led UW-Stout with seven rebounds. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, February 18 at UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
