Farmingdale State - 69, Yeshiva - 56
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and 12 rebounds, while blocking a game-high four shots as Farmingdale State defeated Yeshiva, 69-56.
Tied 10-10 with 13:26 remaining in the first half, the Rams (18-6, 14-1) used a 6-0 run over the next 3:04 to open up a six-point lead, 16-10. After a Michael Hayon (Los Angeles, Calif.) layup on the next Yeshiva (13-9, 9-5) possession, FSC's Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) answered with a 3 to give the Rams a seven-point edge.
The Maccabees cut the deficit to 23-22 with 4:44 on the clock but Farmingdale State went back ahead by seven after a quick 6-0 run capped off by an Andrew Ballou (Staten Island, N.Y.) jumper. Yeshiva closed within five late but the Rams scored the final four points of the half and took a 33-24 advantage into halftime.
Kennedy led the way with seven first half points for FSC, while Hayon and senior forward Michael Berg (New York, N.Y.) each scored six for Yeshiva.
Leading 44-36 with 14:55 left to play, the Rams scored eight straight points, including 3's from both Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) to go on top by 16, 52-36. After a 7-0 Maccabees run cut the deficit to 52-43, Riefenstahl scored the next three FSC field goals to bring the advantage back to double-digits at 58-45 with 6:32 remaining.
With 4:09 left to play and Farmingdale State ahead 63-50, Graham converted a layup and free-throw after being fouled to put the Rams ahead by 16.
The Rams led by at least 13 points down the stretch as they went on for the 69-56 victory.
Kennedy pitched in with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while junior guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) added nine points in the win.
Berg tallied a double-double with team-highs in both points (18) and rebounds (12) for Yeshiva.
FSC sits atop the Skyline South Division with a 14-1 record, one game ahead of second place Old Westbury (13-2).
The Rams will now close out the regular season when they play host to St. Joseph'-LI for Senior Day on Saturday, February 18th at noon.
The Farmingdale State Athletic Department hosted a fundraiser this evening with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on December 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization's namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach.
Kay Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
