Sophomore Freddie Gillespie had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Kent Hanson added 14 points and 11 boards as the visiting Carleton Knights ran their winning streak to 10 games with Saturday's 79-63 win over first-place St. Thomas in MIAC men's basketball at Schoenecker Arena.

Carleton (14-8 overall, 11-6 MIAC) moved closer to locking down a conference playoff berth, and appears headed for a top-four seed. The Knights shot 70 percent in the second half (16-of-23) and 52 percent on the game with just nine turnovers.

St. Thomas (17-5, 13-4), which never led, had an eight-game win streak halted. UST's lead over second-place Bethel (13-5) is now just one game on the loss side with three games to play to finish the regular season.

The Tommies shot just 33 percent in the first half and 40 percent on the game and lost to the Knights on their home floor for the second season in a row. Carleton lost 62-61 in overtime to the Tommies at home five weeks ago.

UST's Michael Hannon sank 3-of-6 from 3-point range, but his teammates combined to make just 1-of-12.

Carleton was up 30-23 at halftime. It used a 13-2 run early in the second half to lead 45-29 with 15:00 to play. The Tommies never got closer than 10 points thereafter.

Hannon had 14 of his team-high 19 points in the second half. Ryan Boll scored 17.

The Tommies play Monday night at St. Olaf.
