Taylor Puts up 18 for R-MC Men's Basketball at #22 Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) scored a game-high 18 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped a 67-53 decision to No. 22 Guilford in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (16-7, 12-2 ODAC) are tied with the Quakers (19-4, 12-2 ODAC) for first place in the conference standings.

After GC hit a three-pointer to start the scoring, Taylor made a trey and a layup to give R-MC a 5-3 lead two minutes into the contest. The Quakers scored six straight to grab a 9-5 lead before Taylor sank a jumper and sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) nailed a triple to give the Yellow Jackets their final lead at 10-9 with 14:00 left in the first half. GC used a 26-10 run to take a 35-20 advantage with 4:25 remaining before taking a 40-25 lead at intermission. The Quakers made one more field goal and one more three-pointer than the Yellow Jackets, but held a 13-1 advantage from the free throw line. Taylor and junior Jermaine Johnson (Akron, Ohio/St. Christopher) both had seven first-half points.

The Quakers used an 8-4 spurt to go ahead 48-29 six minutes into the second half. The lead grew to 20 at 54-34 with six minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets trailed 56-36 before putting together a 14-6 run to narrow the margin to 12 at 62-50 with 1:45 remaining. Guilford held on for the 67-53 victory.

R-MC had one more field goal in the game that GC, but the Quakers made 26 free throws and the Yellow Jackets hit just seven.

Johnson and sophomore Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) both had five rebounds to pace the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, with a home ODAC contest against Bridgewater in Crenshaw Gymnasium. It will be Senior Day, as Taylor, Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) and Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) will be honored prior to the game.
