MADISON, Wis. – Through injuries and attrition, the Edgewood College men's basketball team put together their most complete game of the season on Wednesday night. The Eagles handcuffed Marian University's offense and shot nearly 50 percent from the field in an 80-61 victory at the Edgedome. The victory marked the Eagles largest winning margin in over two years.

Edgewood College (5-17, 5-12 NACC) certainly didn't start the game looking like the dominant team. Trentin Fouse of Marian University (6-17, 5-13 NACC) hit a three-pointer to open the game. After an Eagle turnover, Reggie Roemer hit another three, and then stole the inbounds pass for a layup and quick 8-0 lead just 69 seconds into the game. The tide turned quickly however, as the Eagles heated up and the Sabres went cold.

Adam Freitag converted a three-point play to put the Eagles ahead 13-12 with 13 minutes left in the first half and the Eagles never looked back. In all, Edgewood College would go on a 21-8 run capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Jacob Miller and Tyler Lemke for a 31-20 lead. Two free throws by Kyle Geiger in the final minute would set the Eagles up with a 41-29 halftime advantage.

Edgewood College kept it rolling into the second half, opening up with a Freitag layup off a sweet feed through traffic from Sy Staver. The Eagles scored 10 of the first 12 points of the second half to gain a 20-point margin. Marian put together and 8-0 run, highlighted by a dunk from Ryan Biffert, but Geiger scored a jumper to stem the tide. Staver followed that by feeding Jim Bridges for easy layups on the next two possessions and the Eagles were off and running again. The Eagles lead peaked at 24 points, when Staver made a pair of free throws for a 68-44 lead. Edgewood College's lead stayed above 20 points, until a tip-in by Biffert with four seconds to play.

The victory marked the Eagles largest win since a 93-61 dismantling of Lakeland on January 13, 2015. It was the Eagles third win at home this season, all of which have come by double digits.

Lemke led the Eagles with 20 points and 14 rebounds in only 21 minutes of play. He scored 14 of his points in the first half. Freitag hit a trio of three-pointers to finish with 18 points. Staver led the Eagles with six assists, including at least of the highlight reel variety. Geiger had nine points, while Miller came off the bench for six points and a career-high eight rebounds. Edgewood College's defense frustrated the Sabres into a 32.8 percent shooting night.

Marian was led by Roemer, a Madison native, who scored 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Alex Manhardt had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Fouse also contributed 10 points. The Sabres turned the ball over just five times, but made just 14 of 24 free throw attempts.

The Eagles good vibes will face a tough obstacle on Saturday in the final home game of the 2016-17 season. Edgewood College welcomes 16th-ranked Benedictine University to the Edgedome for a Senior Day matchup. Benedictine has already clinched the NACC regular season championship.
