Jackets Shoot Way past Marlin Men, 76-57

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Randolph-Macon College shot 48.3% for the game Wednesday night to defeat the Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team 76-57 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Randolph-Macon outscored the Marlins 33-27 in the first half behind great bench play. The Yellow Jackets received 30 of their 33 first-half points from bench players.

The Marlins kept the contest close despite being outshot 48.3% to 30.4% in the first half. Randolph-Macon held VWC to a 0-7 mark from 3-point range in the opening frame, forcing the Marlins to drive to the basket. Virginia Wesleyan was able to draw fouls and convert at the line, getting 13 of its 27 first-half points from the charity stripe.

Randolph-Macon jumped out to a 10-point lead, 47-37, with 13:46 to play thanks to a 14-10 run. The Marlins closed the gap to within eight points, but could get no closer as the Yellow Jackets converted on 48.4% from the field, 40.0% from deep, and 90.0% from the charity stripe to outscore the hosts 43-30 in the final half.

The Yellow Jackets continued to see an impact from bench players in the second half as five bench players played more minutes than the most frequently used starter on Wednesday. Montese Adams paced the bench players with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Randolph-Macon held the Marlins to 33.3% shooting for the game and a 2-16 mark (12.5%) from 3-point range. The Yellow Jackets also won the battle of the glass, 40-28.

Korey Turner joined Adams for Randolph-Macon (13-5/9-0) with 16 points while Grayson Midulla added 12 points and seven rebounds. Turner and Midulla both came off the bench on Wednesday.

Tim Jones led the Marlins with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Corey White, Jr. played his best game of the season. The junior finished with 12 points on 4-5 shooting and three rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Virginia Wesleyan (13-5/6-3) travels to Guilford College (15-3/8-1) Saturday for a 3 p.m. ODAC contest.

The Marlins are 34-46 all-time against Randolph-Macon…This is the first time VWC has been swept in the season series since 2014-15…Virginia Wesleyan featured a different starting lineup (Jones, Barnette, Williams, Banks, Poe) for the first time in 18 games this season…This is White Jr.'s first double-digit scoring game since posting 14 points in the season-opener with Methodist on November 14…It was the first career double-double for Adams.
