Campbell Leads Anchormen in, 84-62, Loss at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H.-The Rhode Island College men's basketball team fell to Plymouth State, 84-62, in a Little East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

 

Sophomore forward Justin Campbell (New Haven, CT) paced RIC (8-9, 2-5 LEC) off the bench with 14 points and four rebounds, while freshman guard Chris Donaldson (Bridgeport, CT) was also in double figures with 11 points and four boards.

 

Plymouth State (8-8, 2-5 LEC) was led by sophomore forward Mike Osgood (Nashua, NH) with 30 points and 10 assists, while freshman guard Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, NH) notched 14 points in the win for the Panthers.

 

Plymouth State held the early, 15-9, advantage after three-pointer from junior guard Max Coleman (Londonderry, NH) with 12:00 left in the first half. RIC responded and knotted the game, 17-17, on a jumper by junior guard Jovel Beckford (Providence, RI) with 7:47 remaining in the stanza. The two teams then battled back and forth with the score tied, 25-25, with just over four minutes left in the half. Plymouth State closed out the half on a 12-2 run to take a 37-27 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

 

The Panthers grew the lead to 18 points as a layup from Osgood with 8:35 left in the contest put the score at 67-49. Plymouth State continued to build on the advantage down the stretch to take the 84-62 victory.

 

RIC shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field, including 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from behind the  three-point stripe and 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from the free throw line. Plymouth State shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from beyond the three-point line and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Western Connecticut on Wednesday, Jan. 25 (7:30 p.m.).
