JACKSON, Miss. (Jan. 20, 2017)  Behind a game-high 17 points from senior Jorden Williams, the Sewanee men's basketball team earned a 61-54 win at Millsaps, Friday, inside the Hangar Dome.

Friday marked the first victory for Sewanee at Millsaps since 2004-05 season. Along with the team success, Williams moved into 10th all-time in career scoring. The senior guard, who has scored 1,310 career-points, also moved into second place all-time in career three-point field-goals made. Williams has made 253 threes, which moved him past Eric Ochel (251).

Along with Williams, senior Brody Stone posted a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double. Stone has posted a double-double in each of the last three games.

After Millsaps jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, Sewanee answered back. Eight straight points from Williams pushed the Tigers in front 8-4 with less than five minutes off the clock.

The score remained close the rest of the half. No team led by more than four points the final 15 minutes before halftime.

Out of the locker room, Millsaps pulled to within two, 30-28, after Wade Mason hit a layup. However, Sewanee responded right back. A layup by Stone sparked a 10-3 run over the next five minutes.

Two minutes later, freshman Jonny Crumly hit a three which gave Sewanee a 13-point advantage, 46-33, with 11:07 left.

Just when it looked like Sewanee would run away from the Majors, Millsaps clawed back in. The Majors used a 13-2 run to pull to within five, 49-44, with 5:05 to play.

Down the stretch, Sewanee held on. A dunk by Matthew Lee, and layups from Clay Born and Hunter Buescher, extended the Tiger advantage to six, 55-49. With under a minute to play Sewanee sealed the win, with key free throws from Buescher.

Overall, Sewanee made 44 percent of its shots. The other key factor was the Tigers' dominance on the boards. Sewanee outrebounded Millsaps, 45-30.

Sam Kohnke led Millsaps with 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

Sewanee continues SAA play with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
