Williams With 14 Points as R-MC Men's Basketball Routs SU

WINCHESTER, Va. - Sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) scored a season-high 14 points off the bench to lead a balanced attack as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team whipped Shenandoah 74-47 Wednesday evening in ODAC action for its eighth consecutive victory.

The Yellow Jackets (11-5, 7-0 ODAC) remain in first place in the ODAC while registering their largest margin of victory this season.

Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) and senior Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) had layups for the Yellow Jackets before the Hornets hit a pair of three-pointers to take a 6-4 lead four minutes into the contest. Sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) hit two of R-MC's five three-pointers in a 16-0 run as the visitors took a commanding 20-6 lead with 10:30 left in the first half. The run grew to 25-4, capped by a Williams layup, as the Yellow Jackets took a 29-10 advantage with three minutes left in the period. SU cut the deficit to 16 before freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) nailed a shot from beyond half count as the half ended to give R-MC a 34-15 lead at the break. Williams had 10 points in the first period to lead the Yellow Jackets. R-MC held SU to 27% shooting from the floor (6-22) and 22% on three-pointers (2-9) while forcing 11 turnovers.

The Hornets started the second half with a 6-1 spurt to cut the margin to 35-21 one minute into the period. Noe had a layup and trey in an 8-0 run as the Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to 22 at 43-21 with 16:45 remaining. R-MC maintained its comfortable margin, as freshman David Milton (Catlett, Va./Liberty) hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds left to record his first collegiate points in giving the Yellow Jackets their largest lead as the game ended 74-47.

Williams went 6 for 10 from the floor and hit a pair of three-pointers for R-MC. Adams finished with 11 points, while Noe contributed 10. Adams also led the Yellow Jackets on the boards with six rebounds. Turner had a season-high seven assists to go with his six points.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 with a 2 p.m. home ODAC contest against Lynchburg in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
