LOS ANGELES — Andrew Johnson scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Zach Baines added 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, and the Occidental men's basketball team beat Chapman 77-64 at Rush Gym on Saturday.

Johnson, a two-time All-SCIAC selection who's leading the league in scoring with 23.6 points per game in conference play, was effective from the low block, going 7 for 13 from the field. It's his fifth double-double this season.

Baines, a transfer from Middlebury, was scrappy inside, contesting shots and finishing offensive rebounds and interior passes with good body balance.

Caleb Yellin-Flaherty scored 14 points off the bench for Oxy, Jay Miller scored nine points in his second game back in the lineup, Ryan Kaneshiro scored eight and Austin DeWitz added seven.

The Tigers outrebounded Chapman 43-31 and held them to 38.5 percent shooting from the field.

Oxy led by as many as 15 points in the second half, going on a 52-point surge after trailing 28-25 at halftime.

"We have played well in spurts all season long, but tonight we did it for almost a full 40 minutes," Oxy head coach Brian Newhall said. "We rebounded, we defended and earned a good team win."

Tyler Green led Chapman with 17 points, Reed Nakikihara scored 15 and Rob Nelson had 13.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 9-6 overall and 1-4 in SCIAC.

Chapman falls to 7-7 and 2-3.
