Collins' 29 Leads Drew to Landmark Win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2017) – Freshman guard Riley Collins made six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points, helping the Drew University men's basketball team post an 88-73 victory at Juniata College on a Landmark Conference Saturday.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers move into fourth place in the Landmark with a 2-2 record, to go with an 8-7 overall mark and 2-4 road record. The Eagles fall to 9-6 and 1-3 in conference, with a 5-3 record in Memorial Gymnasium.
 
Top Performers
• Collins shot 9-of-18 from the field, including a 6-of-11 performance from three-point range for his career-high tying 29 points. He led all players in points and minutes played, making 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the process.
• Sophomore center Nate Aldrich recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, shooting efficiently from the floor (7-of-11) and the charity stripe (4-of-4).
• Sophomore guard Darius Reiter sank three triples en route to 15 points and six rebounds.
 
Turning Point: The Rangers led for the entire second half thanks to an 8-0 run to close the opening 20 minutes. Down 28-27 with 2:54 to play in the first, Drew pulled ahead with a bucket from Reiter and consecutive three-pointers from Collins while getting defensive stops on the other end.
 
Highlights
• The opening 10 minutes saw five tie scores and two lead changes, leading to Juniata's biggest advantage of the day at 21-14. Drew swiftly answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead, sparked by four points from junior forward Blaine Taylor.
• Each side made their first three shots of the second half as the Rangers held a 39-34 lead. The Eagles would get as close as 42-41 before Drew rattled off six straight points in two possessions with a three-point play from junior guard Yonathan Napoleon and a three-point field goal from Reiter.
• Drew maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the half with reliable jump shooting and strong rebounding. The second half saw Drew shoot 60 percent from the field and outrebound Juniata 23-7.
 
Stat Sheet
• The rebounding battle was the second most lopsided of the season in favor of Drew at 40-23. The Rangers also performed well scoring in the paint, outdoing the Eagles 38-26 in the category.
• Sophomore guard Dan Roibal finished with seven points, eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.
• Drew's 55 percent mark from the floor was the second highest of the season. It was also their second highest field goal total with 32 and third highest free throw shooting mark at 77 percent (13-of-17).
