SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) scored 23 of his game-high 35 points in the second half as No. 1 Babson College defeated Springfield College, 73-68, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Blake Arena.

With its third straight win, Babson is now 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Springfield, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end, falls to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC.

Flannery finished 13-of-25 from the floor and added seven boards and two assists for the Beavers. Junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) scored 17 points and classmate Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

First-year Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) scored 30 points to go along with 11 rebounds and three assists for the Pride. Sophomore Kevin Durkin (Worcester, Mass.) contributed 15 points and 11 boards, while first-year Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) chipped in with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

The Green and White outscored Springfield 12-5 over the final 4:04 of a first half that included six ties and three lead changes to take a 28-24 edge into the locker room. Flannery scored 10 points during the spurt, and the Beavers led by as many as seven after his dunk with 29 seconds to go in the period.

The Pride pulled even at 34-34 on a three-pointer by Ross just over three minutes into the second half, and then took a two-point lead on a dunk by Post on the following possession. Flannery put Babson back in front 39-38 with a layup to spark an 11-0 run that gave the Green and White a 10-point lead on a corner triple from first-year Frank Oftring (North Attleboro, Mass.) with 12:15 remaining.
    
Flannery scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Beavers their biggest lead of the contest at 60-49 with 6:32 left, but Ross answered with 10 straight points to make it a one-point game at the 3:47 mark. Flannery responded with a three-point on the ensuing possession, and Comenale knocked down a trifecta on Babson's next trip to push the lead back to 66-59 with 1:56 to go. The duo then combined to go 5-of-6 at the charity stripe over the final 28 seconds to seal the win.

The Beavers shot a season-low 41.5 percent, but outscored Springfield 42-34 in the paint and finished with a 47-42 edge on the glass.

The Pride shot 26.3 percent in the first half and just 35.5 percent for the game.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts WPI, while Springfield visits Wheaton.

•    The Beavers are now 21-38 all-time against Springfield and have won six straight and seven of their last eight against the Pride.
•    Babson made a season-low three three-point field goals, but shot better than 40 percent overall for the 17th consecutive game.
