#13 Marietta mauls Muskingum 100-64

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Anthony Wallace scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead No. 13 Marietta College to a 100-64 drubbing of rival Muskingum University Wednesday (Jan. 4) evening. The Pioneers snapped a two-game skid and are now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum falls to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Wallace was 8-of-13 from the floor and hit three from behind the arc to finish with a career-high 23 points. A.J. Edwards scored 14 points, while Dillon Young added 11 points and seven assists. Kyle Dixon was in double figures with 10 points and Caleb Hoyng grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Jalen Paige drained a three-pointer on Muskingum's opening possession to give the Muskies an early lead.  They would push the lead to eight points, 12-4, on a dunk by Jarrell Marsh just over three minutes into the game.

Marietta answered with a 12-4 run to grab the lead away from the Muskies. Young sank back-to-back three-pointers to spark the Pioneer rally.  A layup by Tristan Tillman tied the game at 14 and the Edwards put Marietta in front with a layup at the 12:28 mark.

The Pioneers would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game. Marietta led by six, 42-36, at halftime.

Marietta held the Muskies scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the second half as the Pioneers ran off an 18-0 run to put the game out of reach. Marietta continued to pull away and led by as many as 36 points after the intermission.

Marsh led the Muskies with 19 points. Joshua Keyes notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Paige and Marcus Dempsey each chipped in with 10 points.

For the game, Marietta shot 52.9% (37-of-70) from the floor, 50.0% (12-of-24) from three-point range and 77.8% (14-of-19) at the free throw line. Muskingum was 22-of-60 (36.7%) from the floor, 5-of-24 (20.8%) behind the arc and 15-of-21 (71.4%) at the line.

Marietta outrebounded the Muskies, 40-35. Muskingum turned the ball over 17 times, while the Pioneers committed 11 turnovers.

Marietta is back on the road this weekend. The Pioneers travel to Ada for a 3 p.m. game at Ohio Northern University on Saturday (Jan. 7).
