BOSTON—Senior Isaiah Nelsen (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) each scored 24 points and combined to shoot 76.9 percent from the floor as top-ranked Babson College defeated Emerson College, 100-76, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Brown-Plofker Gymnasium.

With its second consecutive victory, Babson is now 11-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, while Emerson slips to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC with its third straight loss.

Nelsen made his first 10 shots and finished 11-of-13 from the floor, while Comenale was 9-of-13 overall and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for the Beavers. Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while classmate David Stauffer (York, Pa.) scored a season-high 11 points to go along with seven boards and two assists. Junior Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) added 10 points and four assists to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior Michael Sheng (Altadena, Calif.) scored 15 points and sophomore Geoffrey Gray (Newton, Mass.) finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Lions.

Emerson led throughout the first 16 minutes before the Green and White used a 14-3 spurt late in the first half to take a 47-42 lead into the locker room. Jacks gave the Beavers their first advantage of the night at 38-37 and Comenale capped the burst with a triple in transition to make it a seven-point game just 42 seconds from halftime.

Comenale and Nelsen combined for 12 points over Babson's first five possessions of the second half to push the lead to 59-45 with 17:22 remaining. Another three-pointer by Comenale was followed by a layup from senior Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) and back-to-back hoops by Nelsen to cap a 21-6 run that extended the Beavers' advantage to 68-48 at the 14:06 mark.

Flannery and Comenale finished off consecutive three-point plays, and Comenale buried his final triple of the night to make it 79-55 with 12:00 to go. The Green and White, which led by as many as 28 in the closing minutes shot 65.4 percent over the final 20 minutes while holding the Lions to just 27.3 percent from the floor.

Babson shot 56.5 percent (35-of-62) overall and a season-high 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from beyond the arc while outscoring Emerson 40-20 in the paint. The Beavers also finished with a 43-29 edge on the glass.

The Lions shot just 39.1 percent (25-of-64), but knocked down a season-high 12 three-point field goals in the loss.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson visits Springfield at 2 p.m., while Emerson travels to Coast Guard at 1 p.m.
