William Paterson Men’s Basketball Rolls to 89-57 Victory Against York (N.Y.)

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (4-6) never trailed, rolling to an 89-57 victory against visiting York, N.Y. (0-9) Dec. 10.

 

Four three-pointers from senior guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) in less than six minutes helped the Pioneers jump out to a 20-12 lead by the 14:41 mark, and WP immediately followed that with a 17-2 burst that extended the advantage to 37-14 with 8:28 on the clock. William Paterson carried a 51-27 edge into the locker room thanks to 56.7 (17-30) percent shooting from the field and an 8-for-14 (.571) effort from beyond the arc.

 

The Pioneers' lead never dipped below 19 points during the game's final 20 minutes, and a game-ending 20-7 run handed WP its largest lead of the night at 89-57 with 45 seconds remaining before the final horn.

 

Frick added six rebounds to his game-best 20 points, going 6-for-9 (.667) from three-point range. Senior guard Galen Smith (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Tech) finished with 15 tallies, while senior guard Joseph Taylor (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) had 14 points, five boards and five assists. All 12 Pioneers got into the scoring column.

 

Sophomore forward/center Ryan Smart led the Cardinals with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will enjoy an extended break for the holidays, returning to action Thursday, Dec. 29, against St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. in the first round of the Washington & Lee Tournament.
