SEWANEE, Tenn. (Dec. 6, 2016) – In-state rival Maryville rallied from a late double-digit deficit to defeat the Sewanee men's basketball team 83-70 in overtime, Tuesday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

After back-to-back losses, Sewanee is now 4-3 overall while Maryville improved to 6-1.

Sewanee led by as much 13 points with 10:30 left to play in the second half. With the Tiger lead at 12, 62-50, with 3:44 left in regulation, Maryville rallied. After a Dante Hoppa layup and a Sewanee turnover, Tyler Spicer knocked down a three.

Maryville scored 12 of the next 17 points, including a three by Calvin Songster and a layup by Colt Nokes with under a minute to play. The last field goal by Nokes tied the game at 67-67 which sent the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, it was all Maryville. The Scots finished 3-for-3 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. That helped Maryville outscore the Tigers 16-3 the final five minutes. In fact, Sewanee's lone field goal in overtime came when Clay Born hit a layup with four seconds left.

After a slow start, Maryville rallied making 46.2 percent of its shot attempts. The Tigers also played well on offense with a 51.9 field goal percentage. The Tigers were undone by 21 turnovers and a 6-of-14 performance at the free throw line.

Individually, Jorden Williams finished with a game-high 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting. Clay Born added 13 points and six rebounds while Leo Born pitched in 10 points.

Forward Colt Nokes paced Maryville with 20 points and eight rebounds. Songster and Hoppa also added 13 points for the Scots.

Sewanee returns to action next Monday at Johnson. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (EST) in Knoxville, Tenn.
