Marlins Roll to 83-63 Victory over N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team outscored N.C. Wesleyan in both halves en route to an 83-63 non-conference victory on Monday night.

The Marlins have now won 11 straight against N.C. Wesleyan, dating back to to 2005-06 season. The win also snaps a two-game losing skid by Virginia Wesleyan.

A.J. Frye got the Battling Bishops on the board first with an early layup, but a three-pointer and a pair of jumpers by Tim Jones put VWC up 7-2 just over two minutes into the game. Khory Moore followed Jones with a pair of three-pointers to put the Marlins up 13-2 with 15:49 to go until the half.

Jones and Moore carried the Marlins in the first half as the guests took a 39-30 lead into the break. Moore scored 19 in the opening session, while Jones tallied 15 to give the duo 34 of the visitors' 39 points in the first.

The Marlins took advantage of another 13-2 run to start the second half to pull ahead by 20, 52-32, with 15:49 to go in the game. Andre Banks had six points in the spurt as Khalil Barnette netted three and Moore, two, respectively. N.C. Wesleyan got no closer than an 18-point deficit the rest of the way.

Adrian Moore led N.C. Wesleyan (2-3) with 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Moore finished with 23 points for the Marlins, giving him at least 20 points in each of the Marlins' last five contests. Jones tallied 17 points, four assists, and two steals, while Banks contributed 13 points.

Virginia Wesleyan (4-2/0-1) travels to Roanoke College (2-2/0-1) Sunday for a noon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) start.
