Second-Half Surge Sinks William Paterson Men’s Basketball at Misericordia, 94-72

DALLAS, PA. – A second-half Cougar surge led to a 94-72 William Paterson men's basketball (2-1) loss to host Misericordia (3-0) in the McCarthy Tire Laurel Line Tournament championship game Nov. 19. Senior forwards Richy Espinal (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) and David Mofunanya (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

 

Knotted at 40-40 at halftime, the Cougars scored nine straight points to transform a 44-43 edge at the 18:19 mark into a 53-43 advantage less than three minutes later. Misericordia shot 56.3 (18-32) percent from the field during the second period and out-scored the Pioneers 27-12 off turnovers during the contest.

 

Espinal had 15 points and four rebounds, while Mofunanya collected 13 tallies and six boards. Senior guard Turell McClendon (Newark, N.J./Piscataway Tech) added 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

 

Freshman guard Tony Harding led six Cougars in double figures in scoring with 24 points. Freshman forward Noah Rivera contributed a double-double with 10 tallies and 12 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will start New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Tuesday, Nov. 22, at home against Ramapo at 8:00 p.m.
