Veteran Franklin Team Ready for 2016-17 Challenges

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball team has a roster of veteran players ready to accept the challenges for the upcoming 2015-16 season, including 13 home games and a Florida trip.

The Grizzlies, coached by Kerry Prather for his 34th season, open the schedule with a home game against DePauw University on November 16 in the Spurlock Center. Then, the team travels to Florida to play the State College of Florida on November 21 and NCAA Division II Eckerd College on November 21-22. The opening month of the season closes with a non-conference matchup at Centre College on November 30 in Danville, Kentucky.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) portion of Franklin's 2016 schedule features home games against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on December 7 and Earlham College on December 10. The team opens league play at Defiance College on December 3 and returns to Ohio to face Bluffton University on December 17.

Franklin closes out December by hosting non-conference contests against Wabash College on December 19, Cornell College (Iowa) on December 29, and Thomas More College (Kentucky) on December 31.

Four home games dot the schedule in January, beginning against Mount St. Joseph University on January 7. The program's annual Bankers Rivalry Night contest on January 18 features HCAC rival Hanover College. Then, Alumni Day on January 21 will have the Grizzlies hosting Bluffton, before Manchester University comes to the Spurlock Center on January 25.

HCAC home games on the rest of the team's 2016-17 schedule will be Defiance on February 4, Transylvania University on February 15, and Anderson University on February 18.

Franklin, which won three of its final four games last season, returns three starting players and several key reserves, while adding a group of quality newcomers. Senior forward Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) earned second-team all-conference accolades in 2015-16, after being the second ranked scorer at 20.6 points per game.
