CNU Extends Winning Streak to 13...Sixth-Ranked Captains Post 80-60 Victory at York

More news about: Christopher Newport

YORK, PA.- Sophomore Marcus Carter matched his career-high with 27 points Saturday afternoon, as Christopher Newport concluded its regular-season road schedule with an 80-60 triumph at York College. CNU improved to 22-1 overall and 16-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference, and finished the regular season with a 12-0 record in road contests.

"It's amazing that we have gone through the CAC schedule with nine road wins," Head Coach John Krikorian said. "This is a good league and to be able to win on everybody's home floor really says something about our team."

The game at Charles Wolf Gymnasium marked the second straight wire-to-wire victory for CNU. The Captains jumped to an early 8-0 lead, then used a 14-0 run in the first half to open the lead to 35-14. CNU surged to its biggest lead of the game, 40-17, with just over two minutes to go in the opening half. After leading 40-20 at halftime, the Captains didn't allow the Spartans to get closer than 12 points through the second half.

Carter, who made 11 of 16 shots, posted his second straight double-double with 27 points and ten rebounds. The Williamsburg native has now recorded four double-doubles this season, and matched a career best that he set last year when he scored 27 against Otterbein.

"Marcus just continues to get better and better," Krikorian continued. "He's a great leader for us, and really has a tremendous understanding of the game."

Fellow sophomore Aaron McFarland also reached double figures with 11 points that included three three-point field goals. The Captains made eight of 20 from beyond the arc for the day for 40 percent shooting from long range.

CNU out-rebounded York, 41-28, and committed just eight turnovers to York's 17.

Junior Dalton Myers led York with 27 points, as the Spartans fell to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in CAC play.

The Captains, ranked sixth in the nation and first in the Mid-Atlantic region, will now conclude the regular season with home contests next Wednesday and Saturday. CNU wrapped up the regular-season CAC championship on February 3rd.

CNU hosts St. Mary's on Wednesday night with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
