The Hamilton College men's basketball team extended NESCAC leading Trinity College to overtime before the host Bantams escaped with a 96-86 win Friday in Hartford, Conn. The Continentals scored five unanswered points in the final 46 seconds of regulation to force the extra period.

The visiting Continentals (11-12, 2-7 NESCAC) trailed by 10 points with 3:27 left in the second half and were down 78-69 with 2:56 to go. Hamilton didn't allow the Bantams another basket in regulation; they missed all four shots from the floor and turned the ball over twice. The teams traded free throws, with Trinity's two giving the Bantams an 80-73 cushion with 1:50 left. They retook possession 12 seconds later, but Hamilton's Jack Dwyer '18 came up with a steal and converted a fast-break layup to pull Hamilton to five. Peter Hoffmann '19 rebounded a Trinity miss and a Joe Pucci '18 jumper made the score 80-77. The Continentals rebounded a Bantam miss with 19 seconds left and Jack Donnelly '16 tied the game with three seconds left on a three-point basket.

The overtime session was scoreless for the first 61 seconds, but after two Dwyer free throws gave the Continentals their first lead since eight minutes into the second half, the hosts went on a 10-1 run to take control. Jaquann Starks went seven-for-seven from the free-throw line in overtime to pace Trinity. The Bantams made all 11 of their free throws in the extra session and were 35 of 38 for the game.

Dwyer recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and recording a game-high 11 assists. The Hamilton bench scored 48 points, with Hoffmann and Michael Grassey '19 scoring 17 and 16, respectively. Hoffmann matched a personal high with his team-leading nine rebounds and Grassey contributed seven rebounds and a career-best three steals.

Donnelly finished with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers that gave him 110 for his collegiate career. Andrew Groll '19 pulled down eight rebounds and blocked four shots.

Trinity's Shay Ajayi, who made all 11 of his attempts from the line, led all players with 29 points and 10 rebounds and four steals. Ed Ogundeko had 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

The Continentals play a 3 p.m. game at Amherst Saturday. Amherst is ranked 19th nationally.
