Thomas More Falls in Double Overtime to Bethany

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 95-89, in double overtime to Bethany College tonight (Wednesday, February 3, 2016) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 12-8 overall and 9-4 in the PAC.  With the win, the Bison improve to 13-7 overall and 9-4 in the PAC. 

Bethany jumped out to an early 17-9 lead when Antonio Rudolph made a jumper with 14:18 left in the game.  The Saints answered with a 22-8 run to capped by a lay-up by junior forward/center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) to take a 31-25 lead with 3:29 to play in the opening half.  The Bison closed out the half on a 9-6 run to cut the lead to 37-34 at halftime when Calique Jones made a lay-up with three-seconds to play in the opening half.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 23-10 to build a 60-44 lead with 8:54 to play in regulation when junior guard Sawyer Pauly (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) made one-of-two free-throws.  Bethany closed out the second half on a 29-13 run to force overtime at 73-73 when Andrew Williams made two free-throws with 23-seconds to play in regulation.

Bethany opened the first overtime on a 5-0 run to take a 78-73 lead on a Javonte' Trujillow three-pointer with 3:37 to play in the first overtime.  Thomas More answered with an 11-3 run to take an 84-81 lead with 20-seconds to play in the overtime when sophomore guard Corey Howard (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) made a three-pointer.  Bethany's Jerron Athey made a three-pointer with four-seconds to play in the overtime period to force a second overtime at 84-84.  The Bison out-scored the Saints 11-5 in the second overtime for the 95-89 victory.

Freshman guard Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County) led the team in scoring with a game-high-tying 29 points.  He was joined in double-figure scoring by Clifford with 18 points, freshman guard Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) with 12 points and Howard with 11 points.  Horne completed a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds, while Clifford led the team in assists with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (February 6) when it hosts Thiel College at 3 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
