ONEONTA, NY – Junior Justin Pratt (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) knocked down a program-record 11 three-pointers for a career-high 33 points and the Hawks made 24-of-45 as a group from beyond the three-point arc Wednesday night in a 109-50 victory over Utica College at Lambros Arena.
The Hawks' 24 three-pointers sets a program record. The previous benchmark was 20, which was achieved in 2010 and equaled this season against SUNY Cobleskill.
Hartwick just missed the program record for the largest margin of victory which was 63 (105-42) in a 'Wick win over Utica on February 11, 1969. The Hawks also reached 100 points for the second consecutive game.
Pratt's 11 three-pointers set the College record, topping the previous mark by two treys. Greg Bonczkowski hit nine in 1992 while Pratt tied the mark in the regular season finale against Nazareth in 2015. Pratt also moved into sixth all-time at 'Wick in three-pointers with 149.
The Hawks would rattle off 12 straight points to snap a 15-all tie in the opening half of play to take control. Pratt would then help the Hawks open up a wide margin as he hit four three-pointers in a 3:06 span in the late stages of the half. The Hawks would hit 14-of-22 (64%) from three-point range in the half. Pratt nailed seven of them as 'Wick led 57-22 at the break.
In the second half, Pratt equaled his previous-best with his ninth trey at the 15:41 mark to make the score 72-23. He set the record just under a minute later at 13:33. A Matt Knezovic (Ballston Lake, NY/Mansfield University) three at 11:30 pushed the lead to 51 points, 81-30, and the Hawks led by at least 50 the rest of the way.
Twelve different Hawks figured into the scoring on the night, led by Pratt's 33. He made 11-of-16 from the field, all from three-point range, for a percentage of .688.
Pratt's 11 three-pointers is the highest single-game total in Division III this season. The Hawks' 24 triples was one short of the highest total in a game by one team this season.
Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) finished the night with 20 points, including four three-pointers. He also dished out a career-high 11 assists. Glenn Gavan (Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was also in double figures with a season-high 16 points. He also made a quartet of threes on the night.
Knezovic finished with nine points on a trio of three-pointers. Corey Baker (Granby, MA/Granby) ended up with eight points. Matt Wilson (Shelton, CT/Franklin & Marshall College) tied for a game-high with 11 rebounds to go along with a game-high four blocked shots. Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) chipped in with four points and seven boards.
Robert Tutein was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 11 points. Ivan Iton contributed nine points and 11 rebounds.
Hartwick is back in action on Saturday for a clash with Houghton College. Game time is 6 p.m.
