MONTCLAIR, N.J. (January 26, 2016) – Senior guard John Snow scored the 1,000th point of his career and poured in a game-high 30 to lead the Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team to a 69-60 New Jersey Athletic Conference road win at Montclair State University Wednesday night in the Panzer Athletic Center.

With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improve to 8-3 in the NJAC and 13-5 overall, while MSU drops to 9-9 overall and 5-6 in the conference with the loss. R-N remains tied for second place in the conference standings with Stockton University, one game behind New Jersey City University (9-2).

Snow becomes the 17th player in the history of the program to score 1,000 points, dropping in two points with 3:33 on the clock. The Newark native came into the game needing 24 to reach the milestone, and ended up putting in 30 on 9-for-16 shooting. He went 10-for-13 at the line, hit two three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds as well, and now has 30 or more points in three games this season, including two of the last three.

Senior forward Jordan McDaniel had a marvelous game as well, scoring 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting and nabbing eight rebounds. Senior guardRicky Stephens led the Scarlet Raiders with three steals, and sophomore guard Tyler Ofray had five points, three rebounds and two assists.

Ofray started the second half with a bang, drilling a three-pointer to give the Scarlet Raiders a four-point lead, and after some back-and-forth, an 8-1 run gave Rutgers a 49-39 lead with 12:58 on the clock. The momentum changing run helped the Raiders to the first major advantage of the game and featured a three-point play from McDaniel, three points from Snow and a pair from senior forward David Azoroh.

The Red Hawks chipped away at the Newark lead, getting within three points following a three-point play from junior guard Shaun Russell, but an offensive rebound and put-back from McDaniel pushed the margin back to five (59-54) with 5:23 to go.

Snow's 999th and 1,000th points came on two big foul shots with 3:33 remaining, giving Rutgers-Newark a six-point lead. Russell scored a pair for MSU to make it a two possession game, and after two more Snow foul shots, junior guard Erick Loften-Harris canned a three to pull MSU within three points (63-60) with 88 seconds on the clock.

Empty possessions for each team forced MSU to foul, and two from Snow pushed the lead to five with 38 seconds left and the Red Hawks were held scoreless the rest of the game.

Rutgers-Newark shot 46.7 percent (21-for-45) from the field, 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from three and 71 percent (22-for-31) from the line. MSU held a 40-32 edge on the glass, but R-N led for nearly 64 percent of the action and the final 20:35 of game time.

Montclair St. was led by 13 points and five rebounds from Russell and six players had five or more points in the game. The Red Hawks shot 32.8 percent (19-for-58) from the floor, 25 percent (6-for-24) from three and 64 percent (16-for-25) at the line.

The Red Hawks built an early 9-4 lead, but back-to-back jumpers from Snow brought the Scarlet Raiders within one, and three points the old fashioned way – also from Snow – tied the game at 11 with 12:36 remaining in the first half.

A pair for junior forward Olumide Onajide and two more from Snow helped R-N to a four-point edge a shade less than 8:32 in, and a 7-0 rally from the hosts gave them three point edge before a Snow three-pointer tied the score at 18.

Over the final 11:28 of the first half neither team was able to create any separation as the game saw seven ties and 11 lead changes over that span, and the Scarlet Raiders eventually settled on a 35-34 lead after one half of play.

Rutgers-Newark returns to the hardwood Saturday at 8 p.m. when it hosts The College of New Jersey in a key NJAC game inside The Golden Dome Arena.
