Junior Grant Shaeffer and senior Taylor Montero each scored 16 points and the No. 4-ranked Tommies shot 55 percent from the floor and had only seven turnovers in Wednesday night's 71-52 men's basketball road victory at Gustavus.

The Tommies (9-1 overall, 4-2 MIAC) ran their win streak to five and improved to 6-0 in off-campus games this season.

UST rallied from an early five-point hole and led 34-27 at halftime before pulling away in the final 15:00.

Ryan Saarela chipped in 12 points. Off the bench, Jimmy Remke had 13 points, while Ryan Johnson scored all eight of his points in the first half.

Gustavus (4-6, 1-4) had a 33-23 rebounding edge but was whistled for 20 turnovers and converted just 43 percent from the field. Brody Ziegler had 10 points and seven boards for GAC.

St. Thomas is home Saturday for a 1 p.m. game with Bethel, a 10-point winner Wednesday at previous MIAC leader St. Olaf.
