Lightning Needs OT to Down Maccabees

New York, NY – Lehman (8-2) defeated Yeshiva (6-5) 86-82 in overtime to extend their winning streak to seven. 

Olando Minott paced the Lightning with 31 points.  Chaun Miller netted 20 points while Niv Solomon and John Brens added 13 and 10 points respectively.  Solomon also grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. 

Miller had a chance to win the game in regulation but his three-pointer in the closing seconds was off the mark.   Miller did make a three-pointer with 3:16 remaining in the extra period gave the Lightning a lead they would not surrender. 

In the first half the lead changed hands multiple times with neither squad owning an advantage more than four points. However, the hot shooting Lightning shot 14-25 from the field in the first half to take a 40-37 lead at halftime. 

In the second half with the Maccabees trailing 44-43, Yeshiva went on a 12-0 run to take a 55-44 lead with 13:15 to play.  Still trailing by 11 with 9:19 remaining the Lightning went on 8-0 run to get back into the game.  With the Maccabees nursing a five point advantage (70-65), the Lightning scored six straight points to take their first lead of the second half.  After a bucket by the Maccabees, Solomon hit a short jumper in the paint to give the lead back to the Lightning with 1:16 to play.  Rosenberg would answer with a three-pointer to give Yeshiva a 75-73 lead with :35 seconds remaining.  Seven second later Minott was sent to the foul line where he drained two free throws to knot the score at 75. 

The Maccabees were led by Shelby Rosenberg's 29 points. 

The Lightning return home on December 29th and 30th to host the Coaches and Cancer Tournament.  The Lightning will host Western Connecticut at 6:00 PM on the 29th and then play either Buffalo State or New Jersey City the following day.
