Oles' Outbursts Subdue Pipers

More news about: Hamline

They recovered from the first outburst to take a lead. But the second one was a bit tougher to handle.

Hamline's men's basketball team surrendered the first 11 points of the second half and that proved to be their undoing in a 78-63 loss to St. Olaf at Hutton Arena Saturday.

The Pipers (3-5 overall, 1-2 MIAC) overcame a rocky start that saw the visitors scored the game's first eight points. HU stormed back and grabbed a 29-28 lead late in the half before going to the locker room down by just a bucket at 36-34.

St. Olaf came out hard in the second session, scoring 11 unanswered points and that was too much for the Pipers to handle. Herbert Tarpeh, Quinton Garvis and Zach Smith were Hamline's top gunners with eight points apiece. Tarpeh, Smith and Brian Hartman were the top boarders with four each. The Pipers continued to excel at the charity stripe, hitting on 14 of 15 free throw tries. Hamline is currently third in the league in Free Throw percentage at .716 (101-142).

The Pipers are off until January 2 when they play at St. Thomas.
