CINCINNATI, OHIO – A trio of scorers tallying double figures helped Manchester University move into the victory column in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, Dec. 12.

Freshman guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) resumed an impressive first collegiate season with 20 points, while the upperclassman guard duo of junior Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) and senior Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) registered 12 and 11, respectively, as part of a 61-54 win over preseason league favorite Mt. St. Joseph University.

The visitors, improving to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the HCAC, quieted the Harrington Center crowd early by posting 10 of the first 12 points. MSJ battled back on the heels of a 28-13 span, which began with the Black and Gold up 16-10 with 8:05 left in the first half and continued on into the early stages of the second frame, giving the Lions a 38-29 advantage. MU responded, going on a 22-4 run of its own that overturned the deficit to a 51-42 lead that they didn't relinquish.

Johnson, whose 20-point effort was a personal single-game high, ended eight-of-11 from the field, hitting a pair of three-pointers in the process, and also dished out two assists. Dolezal, who helped ice the outcome in the final minute with a four-of-six stretch at free throw line, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and also had team leads in assists (six) and blocked shots (two).

The Spartans return home to face Finlandia University of Michigan Wednesday, Dec. 16. Tipoff is 3 p.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

NOTES: MU's win was its first at MSJ since January of 2011 and its first in the series since they won at home during the 2011-12 season … Johnson's 20-point game was the third of the season for the Black and Gold, as Dolezal did so against Olivet and Hanover … Dolezal's six assists were the most in a contest for a Spartans' player since February of last year.
