Rose-Hulman Earns HCAC Road Win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three players in double figures and shot 51% from the field to earn a 66-62 men's basketball road victory at Bluffton University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Dillon Reynolds and freshman Charlie Aimone led the Fightin' Engineer offense with 16 points each.  Reynolds added six rebounds and four assists, while Aimone hit all four of his free throw attempts and snagged five rebounds.

Senior Tyler Duffy added a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to balance the Rose-Hulman attack.

Other key offensive contributors for Rose-Hulman included senior Jimmy Miller with eight points, four rebounds and four assists; and senior Matt Loesing with six points and five rebounds.

Austin Rohde led the Bluffton offense with 21 points, and Billy Taflinger scored 16.  Rose-Hulman made preseason All-American Thayne Recker work for his 16 points, holding the senior to just 5-14 from the field.

Rose-Hulman held a 27-25 lead after a tightly contest first half and built the margin as high as 66-55 in the final minute.  Bluffton had a furious late rally, with a three-pointer by Rohde, a jumper by Rohde and a layup by Austin Terrill to close within 66-62 before Rose-Hulman secured the victory.

Rose-Hulman shot 51% from the field for the game and outrebounded Bluffton 37-24.  The Fightin' Engineers also held the Beavers to just 4-17 (24%) from three-point range.

Rose-Hulman improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Bluffton dropped to 5-2 and 2-1 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers are one game behind first place in the standings as league play will not resume until Jan. 2.  Rose-Hulman returns to action at home against Illinois Tech in non-conference play on Thursday.
