Annorh & Fletcher Lead Roos Past Pioneers, 79-58

Utica, NY – Juniors Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) and Romario Fletcher(Queens, NY) combined for 49 points as the men's basketball team cruised to a 79-58 road victory v. host Utica College on Tuesday evening.

Annorh led the Roos (4-0) with 27 points on 10-for-16 shooting, while Fletcher posted 22 points and 14 rebounds on 7-for-13 shooting.Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) and Kevin Baksh (Queens, NY) chipped in seven and six points, respectively, off the bench for SUNY Canton.

The Roos led by four early on but used a 9-0 run over a four minute stretch to take a commanding 28-15 lead. Fletcher led SUNY Canton with five points during the run. Annorh hit a shot from downtown with just one second left in the half as SUNY Canton opened up a 22 point lead at 46-24 heading to the locker room.

 

The Pioneers (2-4) stormed out of halftime using a 13-0 run to get within 46-37. However, Annorh responded with a quick basket and Utica would not get within single digits the remainder of the way.

SUNY Canton forced Utica into 21 turnovers which led to a 27-13 advantage in points off turnovers. The Roos also held the upper hand in points in the paint (34-20). SUNY Canton shot 47 percent from the field, including 56 percent in the opening half. Meanwhile, the Pioneers hit on 33 percent of their shots.

Robert Tutein and Carl Taylor paced the Pioneers with 10 points each, while Seamus McHugh added nine.

The men's basketball team has a quick turnaround with its third game in five days when it hosts Clarkson University at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
