#24 Men's Basketball Comes Back From Early Deficit to Defeat Medgar; improve to 9-0

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team, currently ranked #24 in the nation, won their ninth consectutive game to open the season, defeating visiting Medgar Evers, 95-71.  Brooklyn is now 9-0, and 3-0 in league play, while Medgar falls to 3-6, 1-2 CUNYAC.

For BC, it was the fourth consecutive game in which they topped the 90-point mark, and the seventh time this season they've done so. 

Aside from the national attention that the fast start has garnered, the Bulldogs have also set themselves atop the CUNYAC standings as the only 3-0 team to this point. Brooklyn will wait for the newest D3Hoops poll to come out later tonight to find out if they have moved up in the national rankings.

Tonight's game was a tale of two halves, as it started off with the Cougars dominating, taking an early twelve point lead, and owning the lead for the entire first half, going into the locker room up four, 44-40.

The Bulldogs looked like a different team in the second, using an early 8-3 run to take their first lead of the game, 48-47, with 16:30 to play.  Brooklyn never trailed again, as they took control of the game, pushing the lead to as many as 26.

Egzon Gjonbalaj, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, led the Bulldogs once again, this time posting a 29 point, 12 rebound, and six assist effort in 34 minutes of action. Gjonbalaj also nabbed four steals on the evening.

Brother, Edon Gjonbalaj, helped this cause with a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Jamel Gist was highly efficient, scoring 22 points on 8-14 from the field, while also dishing out four assists.

Lorenzo Williams was plagued by foul trouble, but managed to still score 12 points in only 22 minutes.

Medgar Evers was led by a valiant effort from Matthew Lee who notched a team-high 25 points. 

Brooklyn will be back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on the Albertus Magnus College Falcons in a non-league game. The Falcons, who were previously undefeated, and were riding a 59-game home winning streak, had both ended tonight, as they fell to Fitchburg State, 91-85.
