Five Cavaliers Score in Double Figures as Cabrini Tops Marywood 91-74

More news about: Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team took full advantage of its familiar surroundings today, as the Cavaliers snapped their four game losing streak with today's 91-74 victory over Marywood University at Nerney Field House.

With the win, the Blue and White improved to 3-5 overall and evened its Colonial States Athletic Conference record at 1-1.

With the prospect of sitting on a five game losing streak for the next month, Cabrini came out with a sense of urgency today, as five Cavaliers scored in double figures.

Sophomore Deryl Bagwell led the way with 20 points in 20 minutes off the bench, including a career best 6-11 from three point range.  Fellow sophomore Tyheim Monroe posted his eighth double-double in as many games, pairing 18 points on 7-11 shooting and 16 rebounds.

Senior Ace Henry connected on 4-8 from beyond the three point arc en route to 15 points, while sophomore Jair Green added 13 points, six rebounds and a high-flying one handed dunk.  Junior Ryan Charity hit 7-8 from the charity stripe in tallying 11 points.

Both clubs exchanged leads in the opening minutes of the action, but a pair of Henry three pointers keyed an 8-0 run that gave the Cavaliers a 22-12 cushion midway through the first half.  The Pacers battled back, keeping its deficit between 2-5 points for much of the half.

With 2:38 left in the first half, the Blue and White took control of the action.  Cabrini closed the stanza with a 12-2 run, including back to back Bagwell triples.  A pair of Monroe free throws sent the Cavaliers into the halftime break with a 44-31 lead.

Marywood hit the first bucket of the second half to cut Cabrini's lead to 10 points, but the Pacers would get no closer. A Henry three and Green's dunk immediately pushed the lead back to 15 points.

The Blue and White shot 51.7% from the field in the second half, including 6-14 from three point range and 11-15 from the free throw line, as its lead grew as large as 24 points.

Cabrini's defensive effort was key in the victory, as the Cavaliers forced 25 turnovers and turned them into 28 points.  The 25 forced miscues are the most a Cabrini team has forced since a 92-77 win over Wesley on January 2, 2013, when it also forced 25.

Among those 25 forced turnovers were a season high 14 steals.  Bagwell, Charity, Monroe and Robinson accounted for three steals each in the win.

Senior Kendall Harris led the Pacers (3-5, 0-2 CSAC) with 27 points, including 13-15 from the free throw line.  Classmate Shane Letthand added 17 points and a team high six rebounds.

The Cavaliers have some time to get healthy, as the club doesn't return to action until January 5, when it visits Cairn University.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.in Langhorne, Pa.
