Dolan's 37 Not Enough as Titans Lost to Ohio Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan senior Bryce Dolan scored 37 points but the Titans fell short in a 94-85 loss to No. 13-ranked Ohio Wesleyan at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Nov. 28.

The No. 24 Titans are 3-2 and the Battling Bishops improved to 6-0.

The 37 points is the third most by an Illinois Wesleyan player at the Shirk Center, behind the 42 by Korey Coon (North Central; 2/23/00) and the 40 by Bryan Crabtree (Millikin, 2/24/96).
Dolan connected on eight 3-point field goals, tying the school's single game record held by Mark Aubry (at Carthage; 2/19/94); Coon (at Olivet Nazerene; 12/7/89 and North Central; 2/23/00); Adam Dauksas (at Elmhurst College; 1/14/06); and Mark Edmundson (at Wabash; 11/30/88).

Illinois Wesleyan had the lead for most of the first half, taking the edge at 18-17 with 13:58 remaining and leading until the Bishops battled back to tie tha game at 38-38 with 2:41 to go. IWU had led by as many as nine points, their largest of the game, with 9:57 before halftime at 30-21. Ohio Wesleyan grabbed a two-point halftime lead at 44-42.

But the Titans jumped back on top early in the final period, leading by as many as five points on two occasions, the latest at 56-51 with 15:17 to go. Ohio Wesleyan went on a 17-2 run to take a 68-58 lead with 10:51 left and the Titans never got closer than four the rest of the game.

Junior Andy Stempel added 13 points with a team-high eight rebounds and junior Trevor Seibring scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards.

The Bishops had four players score in double figures, led by the 24 points and game-high 11 rebounds from Ben Simpson. Seth Clark and Will Orr, off the bench, scored 17 each and Matt Jeske, who was in foul trouble much of the game, added 14.

Ohio Wesleyan was guilty of only four turnovers in the game as IWU committed 12, but the Bishops connected on 16 of 19 free throws (.842) while the Titans struggled from the stripe, making only 15 of 26 (.577). Without Dolan's 7 of 7 effort, IWU was 8 of 19 from the free throw line (.421). IWU outrebounded the Bishops, 34-32 as each team collected six on the offensive glass.

What's Next?
The Titans have a week away from competition before hosting Washington U. at 7 p.m next Saturday, Dec. 5. The Bears are 4-0 prior to a game Sunday at Hanover (Ind.). Washintton U. has wins over Blackburn (90-60), Pomona Pitzer (87-65), Johns Hopkins (78-62) and Spalding (74-49).
