William Paterson Men’s Basketball Posts 72-68 Victory vs. Rosemont

RADNOR, PA. – Senior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) scored a career-best 29 points as the William Paterson men's basketball team (4-2) posted a 72-68 victory against Rosemont (3-2) Nov. 28 at Cabrini's Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

 

After scoring the first seven points of the contest, the Pioneers trailed for much of the game, including a 19-11 margin with 10:51 to play in the first half. WP briefly seized a one-point edge thanks to a Mensah basket (26-25, 4:06), but the Ravens were able to carry a 34-31 advantage into the break.

 

A 10-2 burst handed Rosemont a 55-50 lead with 9:37 on the clock, but the Pioneers strung together baskets by senior guard Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) and junior guard Joseph Taylor (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson), a pair of Richy Espinal (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) free throws, a Manny Hernandez (Paterson, N.J./Paramus Catholic) layup and a Bridgeman dunk for a 10-0 run over a four-minute span, pushing ahead by a 64-59 score with 3:15 remaining.

 

When the Ravens got to within one (69-68, 0:18), WP made three of its four free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

 

Bridgeman posted 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots, and Espinal collected 12 tallies and a team-best nine boards.

 

Senior guard Marcus Thomas paced Rosemont with 21 points, while junior forward Jamier Hughes pulled down nine rebounds.

 

William Paterson will visit New Jersey City Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 8:00 p.m.
