OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Kevin Miles followed up a 33-point performance three days ago in Goucher's 84-68 victory over Rochester Inst. of Technology by pouring in 31 points tonight to lead the Gophers past Stevenson, 87-76.

It was the first meeting between the two local rivals since 2009-10.

During his 39 minutes on the court, Miles was 10-for-21 from the field and 9-of-12 at the free-throw line, plus he grabbed six rebounds and handed out four assists. He racked up nine points in the first five minutes of the contest by knocking down a 3-point attempt, hitting a mid-range jumper, converting a layup and canning two free throws.

The Gophers (2-1) opened up as much as a nine-point lead in the first half, but by the end of the period, the Mustangs (0-2), who were the preseason pick to win the 2015-16 MAC Commonwealth Conference title, had closed the gap to 39-37.

Stevenson went ahead for the first time on a 3-point basket by Christian Roberts less than two minutes into the second half, but when Tucker Canary nailed a 3-point attempt with 16:19 left to play, head coach Tom Rose's squad led for good. After scoring just three points in the first half, Canary erupted for 13 points over the final 20 minutes and was one of four players who combined to go 10-for-12 at the foul line for Goucher over the final 2:11

The Gophers had two more double-digit scorers in Chris Outing and Ibrahim Kallon. Outing finished with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Kallon contributed 13 points to the win.

After shooting 51.7 percent from the field in the first half, the Gophers cranked it up to 63.6 percent in the second period by making 14 of the 22 shots they took.

Up next on Goucher's 2015-16 schedule is the U.S. Naval Academy. The Gophers and Midshipmen will square off Sunday at 12 noon in Annapolis, Md.
