Chris Green Nets 20 in, 78-51, Win Over Salem State

Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College sophomore guard Chris Green (Taunton, MA) poured in a game-high 20 points on 50 percent shooting from the field to lead the men's basketball team to a 78-51 non-conference victory over Salem State at The Murray Center on Saturday night.

 

Following a chaotic opening five minutes, the Anchormen (1-0) buckled down and found their rhythm on offense, opening a small lead. They also buckled down on the defensive end of the floor, holding the Vikings (0-1) to just 15 points in the period. Green was the catalyst for the Anchormen, scoring 15 points in the frame.

 

RIC shot 43.3 percent (13-for-30) from the floor, while holding the Vikings to just 21.2 percent (7-for-33) from the floor and 9.1 percent (1-for-11) from the three-point range.

 

The second half saw the Anchormen extend their lead in the opening minutes, and held off a late rally from the Vikings down the stretch to clinch the 28-point, 78-51, victory.

 

RIC shot 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the field and 37.5 percent (9-for-24) from downtown for the game. Salem State was held to just 29.5 percent (18-for-61) shooting from the floor and 19.0 percent (4-for-21) from long range.

 

RIC was led by Green's 20 points, five boards and five assists, while sophomore guard Roosevelt Shider (Meriden, CT) and freshman guard Jimmy Fritzson (Sharon, MA) each tossed in 13 points in the victory. RIC junior forward Terrance Tribble (White Plains, NY) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with six points.

 

Salem State was led by junior forward Marcus Faison (Cambridge, MA), who netted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Dennis Bailer (Lynn, MA) ranked second on the squad with six points.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Fitchburg State on Thursday, Nov. 19 (7:30 p.m.).
