Nazareth Downs D'Youville In Season-Opener 91-81

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College men's hoops team opened up the 2015-16 season with a 91-81 win over D'Youville College in its first contest of the Nazareth Tournament.  Seniors Mitch Ford (28 points, 14 rebounds) and Maurice Mills (18 points, 13 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles, while sophomore Tyler Stenglein nearly recorded a triple-double in his first-collegiate contest, pouring in 19 points, while adding nine boards to go along with nine assists.

Nazareth had four scorers in double-figures after the first half as the Golden Flyers shot 52.6 (20-for-38) percent.  Ford (14), Mills (12), Stenglein (11) and Josh Gillard (10) paced the hot Nazareth offense in the opening stanza.

Stenglein scored five straight points for the home squad to open up a 10-2 lead to start the game. 

D'Youville managed to even the score at 19 apiece, before the Golden Flyers erupted for a 27-7 run to open up a 46-26 advantage at the five minute mark following a Steven Soltysik 3-pointer.

Nazareth took a 54-35 lead into the break.

After holding a 19 points lead at intermission, Nazareth maintained a double-digit lead the entire second half, with D'Youville cutting the deficit to 10 on several occasions.

Ford was 12-for-16 from the field, helping Nazareth shoot 49.3 percent for the contest.  Gillard finished with 11 points and two rebounds.  Nick Nadeau also added eight points of his own.

Nazareth returns to action tomorrow for the Championship game against Sage College, with the start time set for 3 p.m.
