Panthers cruise past Oglethorpe, 86-59

ATLANTA, Ga.—Led by five Panthers in double digits, the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team cruised to an 86-59 road victory against Oglethorpe Sunday afternoon in Dorough Field House in Atlanta, Ga.

The Panthers moved to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the Southern Athletic Association; the Stormy Petrels fell to 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the league. The teams are tied for fourth place in the SAA standings after OU defeated the Panthers 91-84 in Birmingham on Jan. 25.

BSC scored the first five points of the game and led 14-3 by the 12:36 mark. The Panthers kept the lead for the remainder of the game, allowing OU to only come as close as cutting it to an eight-point lead twice before pulling back out to a 44-26 lead by the half.

The Panthers maintained a comfortable lead for the entire second half, leading by as much as 30 before eventually winning by 17.

Senior Larry Thomas led five players in double figures with 15 points on 6-10 shooting, and also had a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman Harrison Deneka added 14 points on 5-9 shooting, and junior Alex Avery posted 10 points, also on 5-9 shooting, and a game-high five assists. Sophomores John Crain and Evan Lewis also scored in double digits off the bench with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

BSC out-shot the Petrels in every category, and out-rebounded them 47-21, the widest margin of the season by far.

The Panthers return home next weekend for the final home games of the season, hosting Centre on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sewanee on Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday's game will be Senior Day for Thomas, Mason Holle, and Ander Galfsky.
