Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Senior guard Kyle McAndrews (26 points) hit two late shots to get Pomona-Pitzer within one point, but Cal Lutheran was able to hold on and take a 63-61 win on Tuesday evening.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Sagehens, who fall to 6-13 overall and 4-6 in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran wins its fourth in a row and improves to 8-2 in the league.

The Kingsmen took a 62-56 with just over two minutes left, after an Arik Smith three-pointer and a fast break lay-up from Lanaki Apele. Two possessions later, McAndrews was able to free himself in the left corner for a three-pointer to cut the lead in half with just under a minute left.

Pomona-Pitzer's defense forced an air ball and McAndrews was able to make a step-back 15-footer with 6.3 seconds left to pull the Sagehens within 62-61. However, Pomona-Pitzer had been called for only two fouls, and had to waste most of the clock to get Cal Lutheran to the foul line. With 2.3 seconds left, Smith made the first and missed the second, and the Sagehens were unable to get a desperation shot off before the buzzer.

McAndrews finished with a game-high 26 points for Pomona-Pitzer, while senior guard Michael Cohen added 15. Smith led the Kingsmen with 21 points, while Apele had 11.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Saturday when it travels to La Verne for a 4 p.m. contest.
