MENOMONIE  (February 4, 2015) - It's beginning to sound like a broken record as the UW-Stout men's basketball had chances in the final minutes, but came up short, this time 64-62 to UW-La Crosse Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Team captain Brett Ahsenmacher (So, Annandale, Minn) did what he could to give the Blue Devils a chance. Ahsenmacher hit a 3-pointer with 3:39 remaining to pull Stout to within 57-54. In the following minutes, Ahsenmacher made a couple of dynamic steals. Ahsenmacher grabbed the inbound pass and threw it off the body of an Eagle. Second later, Ahsenmacher went to ground to make a steal.

Stout converted off both steals, with D'Marcco Patrick (Fr, Kenosha) hitting a jumper to tie the score at 59-59 with 2:10 remaing. Ahsenmacher's second steal came after the Blue Devils missed a shot and the Eagles pulled down the rebound. Ahsenmacher tipped the pass to Patrick, who tossed the ball to John Keefe (Fr, Medford) on the top of arc and Keefe nailed the 3-pointer to tie the game at 62-62.

The Eagles would miss a free throw with 42 seconds remaining and it looked like Stout would have a good opportunity to take the lead, but the Eagles' Connor DeBruin made a steal with 16 seconds seconds left. Following a time out, the Eagles passed the ball around and Jared Staege drove to the hole to lay the ball in.

Stout had an opportunity, but the 3-pointer from near half coulrt fell just short of the net.

The Eagles' (9-12, 4-7 WIAC) Sean Wheeler led all scorers with 21 points. Skylar Cameron added 17 and Staege finished with 10 points, none as big as his final shot. The Eagles shot 43.9 percent (25-57) from the floor and hit 11-of-25 3-pointers.

Stout (3-18, 0-12 WIAC) were led by Jarvis Ragland (Sr, Milwaukee) with 13 oints. John Lahti (Fr, Turtle Lake) added 11 oints. Ahsenmacher finished with nine points.  Stout shot 44.4 percent (24-54). from the floor and went 7-of-20 from downtown.

Stout will be off this weekend, and will return to Johnson Fieldhouse to host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
