Senior guard Marcus Alipate scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers, as No. 2-ranked St. Thomas scored a 90-75 home-court victory over Augsburg in Saturday men's basketball play in St. Paul.

The 28 points are the most by a UST player in the five-season home era in the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex.

The Tommies (17-1 overall, 12-1 MIAC) retain a two-game lead on second-place St. Olaf with seven to go in the conference race. UST improved to 9-0 at home this season.

Parker Hines scored 19 points and Joe Zangel added 18 points and seven boards for the Auggies (9-9, 6-7).

UST's Conner Nord had 16 points and seven rebounds; Taylor Monetro had 14 points and three assists; Ryan Saarela added 10 points and nine boards; and Grant Shaeffer had five assists.

The Tommies shot 53 percent from the floor, made 12-of-29 3-pointers, and had only four turnovers. They closed the first half on a 12-5 run and led 49-41 at halftime. Augsburg never got closer than five in the second half.

St. Thomas travels to Winona on Wednesday to face St. Mary's.
