The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team traveled to East Avenue rival Nazareth College on Friday night and came away with an 80-63 win over the Golden Flyers to extend its win streak to 14 games. The current winning streak is the fourth-longest in the program's 52-year history.
With the win, Fisher improves to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in Empire 8 Conference play, while Nazareth falls to 6-10, 2-4.
Fisher held the lead or at least a share of it for the entire contest. In the opening half, the Cardinals were hot from the floor, shooting 60%(15-for-25). Keegan Ryan started 3-of-3 from the field, scoring eight points early to help give Fisher a 16-8 advantage six minutes in.
Fisher built its lead to 33-20 following an Adam Ambielli layup later in the half and led 42-29 at the break.
Fisher used an 11-2 run early in the second stanza to open up its largest lead of the game at 56-37 five minutes into the half.
Nazareth, however cut the Fisher lead to just seven points, 64-57, with 6:25 remaining. That would be as close as the Golden Flyers would come.
Tyler English gave Fisher back its double-digit cushion with five minutes remaining as his jumper made it 71-61 and the Cardinals kept a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.
Ryan led all scorers with 20 points while also pulling down eight rebounds. Tyler Hart and English each finished 4-of-6 from the floor for 13 and 10 points, respectively. Stefan Bock added 12 points while Ambielli poured in 10.
Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when it will host Utica College.
