BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With six Panthers scoring in double figures, the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team defeated Berry College, 109-94 Friday evening in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The Panthers moved to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the SAA; the Vikings fell to 4-11 and 0-5. It was the first 100-point game for BSC since a 102-89 victory over Rust College on Dec. 17, 2012, and the most points scored in a game since Nov. 27, 2004, when then-NCAA Division I BSC defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 113-61 in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The first half stayed close , with six lead changes and four ties. Neither team led by more than five until the 3:40 mark when a jumper from junior Alex Avery put BSC up 48-41 in the midst of an 11-2 run that would put the Panthers up 55-43 at the half.

BSC opened the second half with a 7-0 run to set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Panthers pulled out to a 20-point lead by the 16:46 mark and led by as much as 32, 101-69, with 4:13 left in the game. Berry used an 11-2 run in the last 1:09 of the game to cut the lead from 107-83 to the final of 109-94.

Senior Larry Thomas led all players with 21 points, shooting 5-9 from the field and 9-9 at the free throw line. Avery added 18 points on 7-9 shooting as well as a team-high seven rebounds, and junior John Crain came off the bench and scored 14 points. Junior Ross Welch scored 13 points, as did sophomore Evan Lewis off the bench, tying his career high. Sophomore James McLean also scored 10 points off the bench and led the team with four assists.

Lukas Korn led four Berry players in double figures with 16 points.

The Panthers shot 53.7 percent (29-54) from the field, including 59.1 percent (13-22) in the second half. BSC was also 42.9 percent (12-28) from beyond the arc and 69.6 percent (39-56) at the free throw line, which saw a lot of action with the game's combined 65 fouls and 97 free throw attempts.

BSC stays at home to host Oglethorpe this Sunday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m.
