Gwynedd Mercy Men Fight Off Cabrini, 85-70

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy defeated Cabrini, 85-70, in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup Thursday night at the Griffin Complex.

The game was a rescheduled affair due to inclement weather the night before.

A balanced attack with four players in double figures and seven total with nine or more points helped the Griffins (10-6, 5-4 CSAC) snap a winless streak of 11 games against the Cavaliers.

Sophomore Cedric Elleby totaled 14 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds while blocking three shots. Arron Goodman added 12 while Justin Knight, Julian Hyden and Tre Moore each had 11 to help GM stay in the thick of the playoff race.

Tyheim Moore led Cabrini (9-8, 6-4 CSAC) with a game-high 24 points and a team-high 11 boards. Aaron Walton-Moss added eight points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists.

Gwynedd Mercy would lead the entire first half, holding their largest lead at 16 on two occasions late in the stanza. Cabrini would answer, closing the period on a 13-2 run capped by a Vinny Walls jumper at the buzzer to cut the GM lead to 41-36 at the half.

In the second, an early three-pointer from Ace Henry would tie the contest at 41-41 and Monroe's twisting bucket inside gave the Cavs their first lead of the game (46-44) with 15 minutes to play. After battling to take a three-point edge, Henry would strike again from downtown for a 59-59 score at the 10:12 mark.

From there, the Griffins took control of the contest as Knight would drill an open three-pointer to cap a 7-0 run to put GM ahead for good. A corner jumper from Darnell Artis pushed the lead to 10 (71-61) with 6:55 to go. The Cavaliers would go without a field goal for the final 2:22 of the contest to help ice the win.

Knight and Artis each had five assists. As a team, GM held a big 53-35 rebound edge on the glass. 27 of those caroms were on the offensive side, leading to 35 second-chance points.

Henry hit four of the team's five three-pointers to finish with 12 points. Cabrini shot 41.3% (26-of-63) for the contest.

Moore and Brian Hennessey each had three treys apiece as the team knocked down a total of eight. Hennessy and Artis chipped in nine points each respectively. The squad was 30-of-73 (41.1%) from the floor.

The Griffins travel to Baptist Bible on Saturday in a 2 p.m. start.
