WESTERVILLE, Ohio — No. 7 ranked Marietta College led start to finish as the Pioneers overpowered Otterbein University 105-66 Saturday (Jan. 17) evening in the Rike Center. The Pioneers reached the century mark in scoring for the third straight game against the Cardinals.

One of only two remaining Division III undefeated teams, Marietta improves to 15-0 on the season and 8-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Otterbein falls to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Junior Eddy Grenert got the ball rolling for the Pioneers draining a three-pointer in the first minute of play. Marietta opened with an 11-2 run and never looked back. The Pioneers led by as many as 23 points in the first half and took a 15-point lead, 49-34, into halftime.

Otterbein got within 13 points early in the second half before the Pioneers started to pull away. Marietta gradually increased its lead and a three-pointer from senior Andy Dollman with 4:32 left made it a 33-point game, 97-64.

Pioneer head coach Jon VanderWal cleared his bench soon after Dollman's three-pointer. The end of the Marietta bench outscored Otterbein 8-2 in the final minutes to account for the final 39-point margin. For the game, the Pioneer bench outscored Otterbein's 48-7.

Dollman led five Pioneers in double figures with 15 points. Grenert and Garrett Stephenson each tallied 14 points, while A.J. Edwards notched 13 and Keith Richardson chipped in with 11 points.

Bryan Mackenzie paced the Cardinals with 15 points. Chase Moyer scored 14 points and Matt Hughes and Jake Phillis finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Marietta totally dominated the glass outrebounding the Cardinals 43-25. The Pioneers grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and turned them into 21 second chance points. Grenert pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

The Pioneers finished 35-of-69 (50.7%) from the floor, 11-of-24 (45.8%) from three-point range and 24-of-33 (72.7%) at the free throw line. Otterbein shot 45.3% (24-of-53) from the floor, 40.0% (4-of-10) behind the arc and 82.4% (14-of-17) at the line.

Marietta wraps up the first half of its conference schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at 7:30 p.m. Mount Union visits Ban Johnson Arena in a battle for first place in the OAC standings. The Purple Raiders are one game behind Marietta with a 7-1 league record.
