Hope Men's Basketball Edged In MIAA Opener At Trine

Harrison Blackledge netted a career-high 22 points for the Hope College men's basketball team, but the Flying Dutchmen dropped their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener 65-62 at Trine on Wednesday.

Hope fell to 7-5 overall.

Junior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), chipped in 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Flying Dutchmen.

The game featured 13 lead changes and 11 ties.

Blackledge, a sophomore from Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), gave Hope its last lead at 54-53 with two free throws with 4 minutes, 33 seconds remaining.

Both Blackledge and Benson scored 14 points during the second half.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they host Calvin in the 189th edition of The Rivalry. Tipoff is 3 p.m.
