Claremont, Calif. - The No. 20 UW Stevens Point Men's Basketball team jumped out quickly and never let Pomona-Pitzer get a lead as it captured a 57-49 win at Voeklel Gymnasium on Monday afternoon.

With the win, the Pointers improve to 8-3 on the season, while the Sagehens fall to 2-6 with the loss. Senior guard Kyle McAndrews had a game-high 18 points for Pomona-Pitzer, while sophomore forward Mitchell Finkel had a game-high nine rebounds.

UW Stevens Point took an 8-2 lead behind two three-pointers from Stephen Pelkofer (15 points). The Sagehens briefly pulled even at 14-14 on a three-point play from McAndrews, but never took the lead as the Pointers scored the next seven points for a 21-14 advantage and maintained a 26-20 margin at the break.

A quick flurry from McAndrews in the second half cut the lead down to 37-34 with 11:42 left, but Alex Richard (14 points) had back-to-back lay-ups to extend the lead to seven and a Pelkofer dunk extended it to the 43-34. The Pointers pushed the lead into double figures, and a Finkel lay-up with 3:18 to go had the Sagehens within 52-43, but Jordan Lutz hit a back-breaking three-pointer late in the shot clock to seal it.

McAndrews was the only Sagehen in double figures, as starting guards Michael Cohen and Joe Eyen were both out of action. Junior forward Gibson Farone-Collins was second on the team with eight points and eight rebounds.  The Pointers shot 63.2 percent in the second half (12-19) to hold off any Pomona-Pitzer rallies.

The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow when they host St. Joseph's (Maine) at 4:30 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader with the Women's Basketball team, which hosts St. Joseph's at 2 p.m.
