Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team extended its winning streak to nine straight with an 80-61 victory over the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Tuesday night in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.

Leading the way for BC were juniors Jamel Gist and Egzon Gjonbalaj, as the duo each registered a double-double. Gist finished the night with a team-high 17 points, to go along with a game and season-high 10 assists. Gist's 10 assists are the most in a game over the transfer's two seasons at BC. Senior Jai Kellman netted 14 points, while classmate Valon Djombalic (12 points and nine rebounds) and junior Lorenzo Williams (12 points and eight rebounds) rounded out a well-balanced offensive showing for the Bulldogs, as all five starters finished the game in double figure scoring and accounted for 71 of Brooklyn's 80 points in the game.

Senior Steven Diaz connected on three three-pointers coming off the bench. The Bulldogs have scored 80 or more points in nine of their 10 games this season and are currently averaging a CUNYAC-best 87 points-per-game. BC currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in scoring offense.

Brooklyn jumped out to a 7-0 lead led by Gjonbalaj, Kellman and Gist. Valin Williams ended the Cougars' scoring drought with the home team's first bucket at the 16:30 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs would go up by 10 on two occasions, before Medgar cut its deficit to within two, 14-12, with 13:09 left in the opening half on a layup from Eloy.

Brooklyn would not allow the home team to get any closer, as the Bulldogs used a 10-0 run to go ahead, 24-12, at the midway point of the half, en route to building a 14-point halftime advantage, 41-27.

The second half would see the Bulldogs lead by double figures throughout, as Brooklyn's lead would never be threatened. The visitors would lead by as many as 30, 78-48, on a three-pointer from Gist with 8:29 remaining in the game, before taking home the 19-point victory, 80-61.

For the game, Brooklyn shot 39.3% (33-for-84) from the field, including 26.5% (9-for-34) from three. The Bulldogs struggled from the line, shooting just 35.7% (5-for-14) from the charity stripe.

"We were in control of the game from the start," said Head Coach Rich Micallef. "I'm really proud of the way our team played this evening. We shared the ball and played solid defense."

Brooklyn will look to continue its strong play this Friday, December 12th, as the Bulldogs will close out the 2014 portion of its 2014-2015 schedule when BC will welcome the Lightning of Lehman College in a CUNYAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 pm start time at the West Quad Center. BCTV will be on hand to film the game.
